What's it all about?

Ulster Bank is looking for ideas that help people experience banking in a new way.

Enabling ‘open banking’ and transforming structures, making them connected and better able to communicate with each other.

Ulster Bank Hackathon 2018

From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th of April 2018 the Ulster Bank Hackathon took place in Dogpatch Labs for the third year running. Hosted by the Ulster Bank Innovation Solutions team, the 3-day event brought almost 250 people to Dogpatch Labs to spend 3 days ‘hacking’ out new ideas for finding innovative solutions for the future of banking.

Pitch Your Idea with the help of Mentors

All participants had the opportunity to pitch their ideas with the aim of attracting a talented team of business, development, and design skills to help realise their vision. Once the teams formed they worked intensively in close collaboration to perfect their prototype and pitch before presenting to a panel of judges.

Throughout the weekend expert support was available, from engineers and hand-picked mentors from across the Irish Tech and Financial Services industries, providing advice and guidance to help refine the pitches.

In Attendance

"We want to learn from the outside in. We felt it was important to place our innovation team in a coworking, collaborative environment close to our head office physically but far enough removed in terms of the culture to be sufficiently different."

Robin Marshall, CIO, Ulster Bank

"People really work together. It’s competitive but it’s not too competitive people are happy to help so for me that is biggest thing to comment of it."

Sinead O'Donnell, Student, DCU
