We were honoured to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to our community, as they visited our startup hub to meet the people shaping our country’s future.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined us to celebrate the 7th birthday of CoderDojo, the global movement of volunteer-led programming clubs for young people, and took part in a roundtable discussion on empowering women and girls in tech.
One of the great things about being part of the Google for Entrepreneurs network is the opportunity to share best practices with other startup hubs. This year’s summit, hosted by Epicentre Stockholm, focused solely on building community and Dogpatch were also asked to lead the network in a session on Diversity/Inclusion.
Over 7,000 young people came together at the RDS on Saturday May 26th for Coolest Projects, CoderDojo’s annual showcase. With over 700 technology projects on display from the year’s activities at CoderDojo clubs across the world, the event also had hand-on activities for young people and old such as flying drones, VR headset testing, wearable technology as well as demonstrations, workshops and panel discussions.
Dr. Pearse Lyons was one of the greats of Irish entrepreneurship. Starting with a $10,000 loan from his brother, he bootstrapped his way to a multi-billion dollar business and won the respect of the global agriculture industry through his innovations in science. Always interested in the next wave of innovation, two years ago he launched a global agritech accelerator with Dogpatch Labs to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.
