Code of Conduct

We’re fostering an environment where people of all backgrounds can feel welcome and included in the world of tech.

Our Code of Conduct

Short Version

True innovation comes from divergent thinking. We’re fostering an environment where people of all backgrounds can feel welcome and included in the world of tech, and everybody who participates in events at Dogpatch in one way or another is required to conform to this Code of Conduct. This includes attendees, speakers, sponsors, organisers and volunteers.

Dogpatch Labs is an inclusive space where everyone is expected to treat all individuals respectfully, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion.

We feel it is important to make clear that harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and that if any issues arise they will be dealt with in a serious manner. People are asked to be kind and considerate to others, and to behave professionally.

If you have any questions at all about policy – please contact an organiser or Dogpatch Labs team member.

Why do we have a Code of Conduct?

Our goals with having this Code of Conduct are:

– Helping everyone feel safe and included. Some attendees may have had poor experiences in other events. We want to set the expectation that harassment and other unpleasant behaviour are not acceptable. So that if people do have an unpleasant experience, they know that’s not neither the norm nor acceptable to us as a community.

– Helping to build trust that if an incident is reported, we will not respond with victim blaming, and that we will do a thorough investigation. Even, for example, if the incident concerns someone in a position of power.

– Informing everyone of the expected behaviour. We are a diverse community, and having a Code of Conduct makes the expectations of everybody’s behaviour explicit and transparent.

– Having a framework for report handling. The Code of Conduct is the basis for dealing with a report, assessing whether the Code was violated, and what action should be taken.

Our Code of Conduct

Long Version

Dogpatch Labs is an inclusive space where every individual is treated with respect regardless of gender, identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, and religion (or lack thereof). We do not tolerate harassment at Dogpatch Labs in any form and are dedicated to providing a safe space.

Harassment includes verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Persons asked to stop any harassment behaviour are expected to stop immediately. Violation of these rules will be dealt with in a serious manner resulting in being sanctioned or removed from Dogpatch Labs premises. Persons must be kind and considerate to others and behave professionally.

Offensive comments, intimidation, harassing photography, recording and/or social media, threats, violent language, inappropriate physical contact, disruption of talks and events and unwanted sexual attention are all examples of harassment.

If you experience harassment, witness a person being harassed or simply have questions about policy see the ‘Where to report incidents’ section below.

Individuals are expected to follow these rules while on Dogpatch Labs premises in all aspects of communication.

We are a diverse community and serious about following the rules of our Code of Conduct.
