Most of those in the tech community will know me from my involvement with Python Ireland over the last 10 years as well as organising game jams and more recently promoting diversity in tech by running workshops with my not-for-profit organisation Coding Grace. I first met Patrick, Managing Director of Dogpatch Labs, over a year ago when I was introduced to him by my husband who worked at Udemy when they were based…
Next up in our Resident Profile series is CoderDojo. Founded in 2011 by James Whelton, a young Cork-born entrepreneur, and with the help of Australian philanthropist Bill Liao, CoderDojo has grown to become a global movement of free, volunteer-led, community based programming clubs for young people. This movement is supported by the non-profit charity known as the ‘CoderDojo Foundation’ which was founded in 2013. At a Dojo, young people, between 7 and 17, learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and explore technology in an informal and creative environment. In addition to learning to code attendees meet…
Welcome to this week’s blog, written by the newest member of the Dogpatch Labs team, me, Naoise. I’m the one who is usually unlocking the door for you and answering any stationery needs you may have. I joined the team just over 2 months ago but I’ve been a Dogpatcher since last July as I was the Events Manager with the Irish Youth Foundation. The Dogpatch reception area is a busy place, constantly on the go with people coming and going. The morning will usually follow the same routine as residents arrive, clients show up for meetings and post and…
Here at Dogpatch our team works with all members of the tech ecosystem – from startups and solopreneurs to universities and multinationals – supporting them to innovate through events such as team-building innovation workshops, knowledge sharing meetups, and highly curated intro-accelerating networking events. One of the event formats we use to help organisations to innovate is through Hackathons and Startup Weekends, which help immerse the organisation in the world of innovation over a few days. If you’re asking yourself “What is a hackathon?”, we’ll explain it briefly. The term comes from a combination of two seemingly unrelated words: Hack –…
This video is the first in a series of ‘Resident Profiles’ that we, the Dogpatch Content Team, have created to get to know our residents a little bit better and to understand what it is they do. First up is Twilio, a Cloud communications platform for building Voice, Video, Authentication & Messaging applications on an API built for global scale. They take care of the messy telecom hardware and expose a globally available cloud API that developers can interact with to build intelligent and complex communications systems. As your app’s usage scales up or down, Twilio automatically…
